눈의 여왕 disappointment

HAha I've been on MC for two days... Small problem, caught a viral flu.

I was actually grateful for being able to stay home, I'll be able to have more time to complete some admin work.

However I spent the entire day yesterday mugging 'The Snow Queen', which I bought in JB a month ago! Started watching from about 11am to 2am the next day. One entire day gone! Feeling so guilty now.

This is the first time in a long while I've been disappointed by a Korean drama. I bought this serial because my Korean No. 1 fave, Hyun Bin, is the male lead. What should I say about this serial? Well the plot doesn't make much sense, the acting is bad, the characters are tearing and crying all the time, the soundtrack makes me feel like throwing up my potato chips, my Hyun Bin looks scruffy and glassy-eyed all the time... Hai...

An interesting fact about this movie, Hyun Bin's character is 25 and his love interest is 22. I checked the internet and found out that the female lead, Sung Yu Ri, is actually one year older than Hyun Bin!

Got a couple of pics today, from our BBQ @ Jennifer's house. MJ used photoshop on them. Unfortunately we didn't take a pic of Jennifer's teenage son, who is sooooo cute!

My first crush is getting married

As I got off the cab just now, I realised that my neighbour, Jack, is getting married. Ribbons adorned his red car.

I'm feeling just abit of regret and loss now.

Jack is my first crush, and it was a BIG one. He stays two houses away from me.
I had the crush on him when I was in Cedar Girls and he was in ACJC.
And then one fine day while walking our dogs, we walked past each other and he said hi to me. (There's another story behind this, he saw me rescuing a sparrow.) But I was so surprised and flustered then, didn't know how to react, and IGNORED him. He never tried to talk to me since then.

I totally regretted ignoring him since that day itself but I didn't know how to remedy it. And by the time I grew up and stopped being so shy, it's too late. We have been treating each other as air for years.

He went into NUS medicine and became a doctor. I think his gf/wife-to-be is a doctor too.

Hai... I'll always wonder how things would turn out if I wasn't so shy then? There's always the possibility we could have been great friends and grow up together. How different things could be....

Arnolds fried chicken for lunch

I'm writing this post in school, am waiting for my Arnolds chicken to arrive and I refuse to do any more work till I have my lunch.

I'm totally spoiling my diet with the fried chicken and its all my colleague Gerald's fault! haha...

Something funny happened after school a while ago.
My colleague Bel asked my boy ,Arjan, why it is wrong to swing his wallet and hit his friend
I was standing beside her, watching the show.

Arjan: Pain...
Bel: Somemore?
Arjan: Dangerous...
Bel: uh huh?
Arjan: Can kill....
Me: *laughs loudly*

Sooo cute...

Celine's Birthday Celebration by N333

To celebrate Celine's big day, N333 went to this KTV lounge opposite Bugis's breadtalk. I didn't take note of the name.

Well what's interesting about this lounge is that there are smoke and laser light buttons that you can press for special effects. I didn't care too much for these effects however. The smoke really smelt like smoke which means its smelly, and the laser flashes gave me a headache!
I had to leave halfway after Mrs Seah (my sup) called me in a panic, I had left out two pages of the 40 pages report I had to do. Silly careless me!

Here's a group picture!
We have Robin with us for the first time.
Happy Birthday Celine Darling~!

Top secret ah!

Update: We were warned again today NOT to mention anything about the PSLE marking, even to our own family members, so I gotta rewrite this post. *wriggles fingers*

As everyone knows, marking isn't exactly fun. And this week, we mark from 8am to 5pm! I thank God for the teachers in my team. They are such a fun bunch of people! We spent these 3 days laughing at other teachers and everything under the sun.

Here are some of my favourite moments.

The Cigarette Seller
Yesterday, we nicknamed this teacher 'cigarette seller' because he looks just like one and spent the next hour role-playing (in hokkein) how he would sell cigarettes. Today, we were still laughing at him. Think our students will flip if they hear our silly conversations!

Frisbee Sessions
There are A LOT of male teachers in this centre and from the look of them, they should all be PE teachers. The interesting thing is that since day 1, they gather together to play frisbee during every break. And I found out today that they don't know each other!

Marking @ Palau Tekong
I commented today that MOE should ship us all to a Bintan resort for the 4 days to mark because its so top secret. My team members started giggling and said, "More like ship us to Palau Tekong ah! To some haunted and deserted camp because MOE is soooo niao!"

St. Stephen's Boys
Apparently to teach in St. Stephen's, you must be really really REALLY energetic to run after the boys. The stories I heard make the boys seem like m*******! All the teachers I met can't wait to transfer out from there!

Hair Anniversary day
This higher-up told us that she has a hair anniversary day. Apparently she had really long hair, cut her hair short and noted the date. So we asked when she cut her hair. More than 30 years ago she replied. We all agreed that she was super bo liao.

Names and numbers
Till now I don't know any of my team members' names. Yes we have hung out with each other for 9 hours for the past 3 days. As you can tell, we have been addressing each other by our marker codes. What has MOE done to us!

Korean Gathering At Jennifer's house

I'm upset. My phone's camera is spoilt. :(
We had a gathering at Jennifer's house today, wanted to take some pics but couldn't. Ahhh...

Well we had a great night out! Jennifer's condo, Bishan Point, was lovely. We had our dinner at the BBQ pit beside the pool.
The main dish was 삼겹살(sam kyorp sal) which is grilled pork bacon eaten with garlic, dipped in bean paste and wrapped with fresh lettuce. Yum~ 맛있다~
Jennifer also prepared some korean dishes like 잡채(jap chae-my fave!), rice cake in chilli sauce, chestnut jelly, and she made her own 김치(kimchi)which was delicious! Gotta learn from her how to make it!
Also had my first korean beer today, Hite . It was light and tasty, I liked it!

선생님 and Jennifer gave me really useful information on shopping and sight seeing in Seoul! And 선생님 was telling me, the university students have their winter vacation the period I'm in Seoul so if I'm lucky, I can get a free guide to bring me around. Wow!

Tithing

After Pastor Kong's 30th September sermon on tithing and reading Malachi, I decided to tithe my October salary which is a first time for me. For civil servants, our pay comes in on the 12th. So between the 30th September and 12th October, which is today the day I actually tithed, some amazing things happened.

I got an income tax refund! The refund is actually slightly more than my tithe. Why is this amazing?
Two months back, I was really annoyed I had to pay more income tax then my friends who are earning more. This is because I stay in landed property and am not entitled to rebates. But hey, the house don't belong to me right? So I called up IRAS twice and tried my best to fight for rebates but failed both times.
And then two days ago, suddenly out from no where, I got a letter from IRAS about the refund!

I was really blessed today. My colleagues and I went to Pengarang for a seafood lunch because school ended early today. The weather was really good when we were there and after we got on the boat back home, it then started raining. I also made it on time to my cell group meeting because I got two lifts from Gerald and my mum. And then after CGM, Jaslin sent Merf, Jiahui, me and Wendy home! How nice is that?

And then hor today, I was running late for school but I just wanted to do my tithing with e-nets before I leave home. So I was hoping that I won't be late. In the end, I WAS late, but guess what? When I reached school, the gate was still opened! At 7.35am! Usually the gates closes at 7.30a.m. sharp.

Wow wow wow! What can I say? I don't think all these are mere coincidences. Like what Wendy said, GOD IS GOOD!

I realised how bad I am at pool today. Mingkai is REALLIE good! *wipes sweat* Jiahui is second best after MK, Kaixin complains alot but is not bad also wo! BUT I'm not last, last place goes to Eunice~ *MUHAHAHA* Think she'll box me if she reads this! Ssssh don't tell her!

Oh yeah and I went for make-up cell today, what an experience it was! Thank you Ben for going with me! I must say, I 100 times prefer my own CGM under Wendy! That reminds me, next Friday after lunch at M'sia, must quickly return back to SG for CGM~!

Meraprime gathering and TKD lesson 2

Met up with the korean study group today, it was good to see them!~

We had a potluck at Poh Yin's condo, Meraprime. Her condo is beautiful! We had a brillant view of Singapore from the 36th storey. Later on, it was really relaxing chatting at the pool area too. Her condo is just behind Tiong Bahru Plaza. Sooo convenient!

I had my second TKD lesson today. We learnt to do the basic pattern today...block punch turn... block punch turn... Sooo fun! Muhahaha~

Kids Talk

Yesterday for art, I got my kids to write and design notes to wish their friends all the best for their exams.

So I wrote one as an example, and I addressed the note to the teacher next class, Miss Chan.

"Dear Miss Chan... All the best for your exams. Study hard! Love, Miss Kan"

A few kids started snorting loudly and giggling to themselves.
I was of course bewildered and asked, "What?!"
My monitor, Yu Qian, managed to splutter between her snorts, "Miss Chan so old liao still got exams meh??"
Then the whole class went "ORRRR HORRRRR!!!!!! You said Miss Chan OLD!!!!!!!"

Haha...

People are always telling me I'm one of the few teachers they know who truly enjoys teaching because of the kids.
I think its really easy to love the kids? They're so innocent, so honest, so sweet, so likeable~!

When my kids saw my bruised arm, they gasped in horror.
"Miss Kan!!! Why your arm black black?? What happened???! You knocked yourself? Someone beat you? Got into an accident? Scalded yourself? Something fell on you?"
"No no." I replied. "I donated blood."
There was silence.
"You WHAT??" Asked the kids.
After I spent 10 minutes explaining to them what a blood bank is and why I donated blood, one boy asked me, "didn't your mummy scold you?" *lol*

This is a note I got from Tiaan, my South African boy today.

Hehehe... Athough he makes me angry quite often, I think he's the best too!

So sweet hor~~~~~~♥♥♥

Ice Cream Chefs

I do so love desserts, specially ice creams.

I've seen the long queues outside Ice Cream Chefs, I've heard from GML how her colleagues will drive down from Raffles Place during lunch just for ice cream here. When I bit into my first mouthful of ice cream, I was kinda disappointed.

Don't get me wrong, it's not that its no good. It is still pretty exciting to be able to mix different flavours of ice cream together with toppings of your own choice.

I had horlicks, chocolates and hersheys and beanie vanilla mixed with oreo cookies. Here is a picture:

Personally I prefer Haagen Daaz, Ben and Jerry's or even Scoops. Just prefer the texture of their ice cream.

Honouring my dad

Don't be mistakened, I'm not trying to pay tribute to my dad on children's day.

I'm just SO freaking pissed with him now.

As most people know, my parents are divorced. I have not seen or heard from my dad in years. He remarried shortly after his divorce and has 3 young children with his new wife.

And then yesterday can call me and instruct me to visit him in hospital. Ok the conversation went like this.

Him: Hello?
Me: Dad?
Him: Yes its daddy. Hey I'm in SGH now. Low platelet count like the other time (years ago).
Me: Ok.
*silence*
Him: Come visit me tomorrow, with your sis. I've got something to tell you (about his new wife).
Me: ............................ok............. (Ahh.. I wish I can say NO to him. But the bible and church teaches us to honour our parents. Obedient I will be then. )

Today got another sms from him: Buy chicken rice for me if you can.
And then 10 minutes later: Obviously none of my family members know I'm in SGH.

Like duh, who he thinks he is? WHICH family member? His new family that he is abandoning? Or the family he grew up with but disowned him because of the divorce?

I've to bear these things in mind later when I visit him.
1) Keep peace. Walk away if I get mad.
2) Listen but don't comment/advise/opinate. Just keep my mouth shut to avoid quarrels.

Update:

OK I'm back.
Things were almost what I expected.
We entered the room, and saw a strange woman there. Turned out she's the new woman in his life. So he's in the process of divorcing his current wife. I asked what's gonna happen to his 3 kids, and he couldn't answer.

What I didn't expect, he made a will, and made me the sole administrator.
I haven't seen my dad for years and now I'm holding the original copy of his will. Sure feels weird... He hasn't met me for years, how would he know I grew up sane? How would he know I wouldn't sell his flat for $2? I'm some sort a stranger to him now right? But then again, who else can he give the rights to? He fell out with everyone else. The follies a man make.... *Sigh*
One thing to do, I gotta persuade my dad to create a trust for the kids to take care of their needs. Don't know how I'm gonna do this!
